It’s structured and individually-tailored for confident, bright & creative minds who are up for a challenge to go beyond expectations! We have plenty of programs around the world, but let’s discover the Italian Management Trainees! Three recent trainees gave us the inside scoop on the life of a trainee. Let’s meet Giorgia, Alessandro and Rossella to discover the benefits of this unique program.

Giorgia

Giorgia

Hello, I’m Giorgia! I am currently working as Junior Product Manager for Biotherm, focusing on Facecare. I have just landed the position, having finished the Management Trainee where I had the chance to experience two of L’Oréal’s divisions: The Luxe on the Trade & Digital teams of YSL Beauty and the Professional Products Division as a Sales Account for L’Oréal Professionnel.

What drew you to the Management Trainee Program?

I really loved the idea of having the opportunity to explore different markets/products/mindsets early on in my career and the Graduate Trainee Program was the best way to do that!

You spent time in two very different fields, do you have a specific moment that sticks out for you?

This is a very hard question to answer. Truthfully, what comes to mind is not a specific moment or project but rather the whole journey. It is the thought of the intertwining of experiences, challenges, people that gives me a sense of fulfilment. I guess my proudest achievement is the overall amount of experience I have been able to absorb, the learning curve I have ridden and the quality of relationships I have had the chance to cultivate.

What did you like the most about the program?

A FLEXIBILITY CHALLENGE: The program has been a challenging and empowering experience. Specifically, it has given me the opportunity to really test my mental flexibility and adaptability skills, which I feel are fundamental in the current work environment.

THE PEOPLE: People, people, people. Meeting people with different views, different journeys and different mindsets is the greatest source of inspiration and learning.

360° VISION: At the end of the program, I feel like a have a better understanding of who I am, who I want to be and in what context I operate.

Rossella

Hello, I’m Rossella! I started off my career path at L’Oréal in January 2016, by taking part in the Management Trainee Program. As part of this Program at L’Oréal, I had the fantastic opportunity to experience two placements across different functions within the Professional Products Division: Sales and Digital Innovation. Currently, I work as Digital Manager for the Redken, Biolage and Matrix brands.

What is your proudest achievement?

In my second rotation, I had the fantastic opportunity to work on the design and development of innovative retail projects for personalized and immersive in-salon experiences. It was amazing to see the results of our work by visiting the salons we helped develop and digitalize thanks to the Salon Emotion project. A complete new customer experience that was the result of the cooperation between the digital innovation and retail team!

What did you like the most about the program?

GREAT LEARNING EXPERIENCE: You are given the great opportunity to experience different areas of the business, from sales to digital. And learn from them as much as you can. Each rotation lasts at least 6 months, which gives you the chance to understand what you would like to do next. What your strengths and weaknesses are and how to better yourself.

EMPOWERED SINCE DAY ONE: You feel empowered since day one and you take part in stimulating projects. In my second rotation, I had the opportunity to lead a 5-member team, appointed to develop and implement innovative digital tools to support the salesforce selling L’Oréal Products and services.

NETWORKING AS PART OF THE JOURNEY: You meet inspiring people and can share your journey with someone who is undertaking the same path. All different projects and workshops you are involved during the program are great ways to grow your network and find true friends along the way.

Alessandro

Alessandro

Hello, my name is Alessandro, I started my career path on April 2018, as Business Sales Analyst intern in the Professional Product Division. After 4 months I decided to apply for the MT Graduate Program. I have done two rotations, one as a Trade Marketing Specialist in L’Oréal Luxe Division for Biotherm and House99 and another in my car on the field, as Sales Account in the Consumer Product Division.

What is your proudest achievement?

At the end of the internship, each intern has to develop a project, which will be presented to the executive committee of his division. During a commercial coaching, I became aware of several routing planning needs. Hence born the idea to study an optimized routing for the visit of the point of sale. With the support of my manager and all the analytical tools available in the company, I managed to build and launch a pilot project on one Sales Account. At the end of the internship, I had the privilege to share my project with the directors of the division.

In the following months, I was told that the new employee that would have take my place, would be dedicated, among other things, to the implementation of the project that I started.

Could you explain us how is the selection to be part of the Management Trainee Program?

The selection process has been structured in various intermediate steps during my internship. The first contact that I had with HR team was during the mid-stage interview (In Italy, this program is dedicated to former interns), in which I started showing my interest in the program.

Subsequently, I had to forward my updated CV and complete a logical and a digital test online. After this, I had an interview with the head recruiter of L’Oréal Italy.

Overcome these steps have been passed, I have been invited on a group assessment, divided mainly in two parts. A group business case and an individual interview with two directors.

Tips you would give to someone who wants to join the program ?

  1. Enjoy the change, stay curious and try to take the most of every job rotation: if you give it your all, you will learn a lot about yourself, your strengths and areas for improvement and at the end of the journey it will be clearer for you what the right career path to undertake is.
  2. Do not be afraid of doing something you have never done before: you will be asked to do presentations in front of a large audience, to sell products, to take the lead in a brand new project. You will have the possibility to challenge yourself like never before. Try to make the most of it and face everything with energy and a smile, at the end of the day it is YOUR learning journey!
  3. Networking is key: enjoy working with every team and try to learn something from every person will cross your path. It is a unique opportunity to meet people with different backgrounds, experience, that work on different projects and functionalities. You will learn something every day, from everyone!

Alessandro, your last word… The Management Trainee Program offered me the best way to know myself and to understand different perspectives of the same Company. I think the better way to improve yourself is to get out of your comfort zone and try things you never would have tried. And with the MT Program, will be the best way !!
