Why We Love Working With Beauty Professionals and Why You Will Too.
What is Professional Beauty? At L’Oréal, the Professional Products Division is made of people like you! The Artists. The Creators. The Inventors. The Entrepreneurs. All working as one to transform the industry. They are the people co-creating trends with professionals across the beauty industry. They all have a different story and different backgrounds… But, what do they have in common? Their passion for people. Meet our people from the Professional Products Division around the world.
Every day, I come to work with inspiration and full engagement and I’m happy. Why? Because I have the privilege to lead an amazing team towards a very important mission.
Together, we are leading the digital transformation of professional beauty, we are supporting the development of stylists and beauticians and help them get the best of our today digitalized world. We are pioneering the “new L’Oréal”, meaning a company which is 100% people-centric. We have defined a concept that we call a “Great Place To Win”: my ambition is that our 12,000 L’Oréal Professional Products Division employees can act like entrepreneurs and make decisions everyday like if it were their own business.
When I joined L’Oréal seven years ago, I was aiming to become the head of the division, because I knew this would be the place where I could have the team with the biggest impact.
When I was growing up on a farm in rural South Australia; if somebody said to me “you’ll be attending Fashion Weeks around the world; producing large scale hair and runway events from the vision, to music, the visuals and model casting; Art direction; Creating beautiful imagery on photoshoots and designing education spaces for people to learn…” I wouldn’t have believed them.
I feel honoured to be influencing and fostering such a crazy group of fun, passionate and creative industry-people! Surprisingly though, people don’t know how much hard work, passion and perseverance it takes to make it look like, “you’re so lucky”.
Coming from Colombia, a country that has dealt with vulnerability, poverty and numerous social issues for over six decades, positively impacting the lives of others is core to my personal purpose. Working on Beauty allows me to connect with what is important to me on a daily basis, as I believe that through our work we help others to achieve their dreams in many ways.
The L’Oréal Professional Products Division was my entrance door to the Group and I feel very proud that after 23 years — and quite a varied experience — I am still part of it. In my current role leading L’Oréal Professional Products Division in Latin America, I have the privilege to work with a team of entrepreneurs, with whom we share an obsession for transforming and modernizing the professional beauty industry, the quest for excellence and the resilience that will take us to re-write the history of the Division.
In addition to that, our Division is at the heart of one of our best communities programs: Beauty for a Better Life, which is very close to my personal values and beliefs.
I will never forget the first time I laid eyes on a L’Oréal Professional educator, I was 17 and had just started my apprenticeship in a L’Oréal salon, and I thought WOW “she is so fabulous and so smart!” I was very inspired. 17 years on, I’ve had had an incredible career within the division, I’ve worked in nearly every role across the division and across Australia and New Zealand. The people I’ve worked with and the training and development given to me, has taken that 17-year-old girl to a General Manager role.
I am (super) PSYCHED each day waking up to different challenges. I look forward to working with passionate souls from all walks of life, all around the world. I grow to become better versions of myself every day with all the beautiful people I work and cross paths with. The opportunities and possibilities are limitless in my job, bring it on!
In L’Oréal Professional Products Division we work with over 10,000 entrepreneurs — and our job is to help them develop their business, through new services and concepts in their salons.
Working with these creative entrepreneurs means that no day is ever the same and we are always testing new disruptive concepts to adapt the market in the fast-moving modern-day world.
People are everything here. Because without people, what do we have? Without a great team, would Alex Ferguson have become the most successful football manager of all time? Great people — that’s why I’m here and staying right where I am.
What makes you decide to engage with a brand? For me, the key differentiators are emotion and experience. When these are great, engagement follows. This is why I‘m so focused on inspiring people. Every day is exciting for me because I get to develop new strategies that create desirability for the brands. The Division offers incredible opportunities. The spirit here is unique, and it’s the perfect place to develop 100% engagement for our brands.
Our customers have never needed us more. With the profound changes happening in our industry it’s time to rewrite the rules, with our customer at the centre. In the L’Oréal Professional Products Division, we are fortunate to be in close proximity to our customers. We know their dreams and their challenges. We feel the daily excitement of running your own business, and the anxiety over what the future holds. We bring reassurance, inspiration, innovation, and business advice. We can make a difference by living in the customers’ shoes every day.
From day one I learnt that I am responsible for making my job the best it can by coming up with new ideas and making sure they are implemented.
Working here means taking initiative, being creative, hands-on and daring to think different. I started as an intern, then became a project manager and now my team and I are supporting hairdressers in being the best at creating exceptional customer experiences. Working with entrepreneurs means thinking & acting like one.
Don’t take anything for granted, challenge the status quo and what is already in place. Keep your eyes, ears and mind open to capture what is new, what will emerge. Embrace the routine of meeting new people, discover new concepts and businesses in order to lead the transformation of our professional beauty!
I was lucky enough to start 15 years ago in the Division, a rare business where true disruption is encouraged, human sensitivity fuels every interaction and creativity knows no limits. Working for the division both in Madrid and New York, I understood that big ideas can go a long way, even on constrained budgets. If I had to chose the three attributes nurtured by the division that have been crucial to my development, it would be the entrepreneurial spirit, the passion for the craft and the teams and the relentless creativity.
